From the Donkey’s Mouth
In his own words…
Surrounded by a hand-picked friendly crowd in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, President Obama attempted to convince the American public that special interests have been lying to them. However, interestingly, he used a lie to call his opponents liars. He repeated his tired mantra, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” Mr. President, rather than repeat that line again please respond and explain H.R.3200 page 16. You can repeat that line until you are blue in the face, but I won’t believe you as long as I can read the actual resolution. What you say is or is not in the bill holds no legal weight. Ultimately, when the bill is passed only what is actually written will stand as legally binding. When in the past you have told us that a single payer system is your goal, why should I believe you when you say you are not trying to push a single payer system on us? When did you change your mind? If you aren’t lying, perhaps you should have the House delete the language on page 16?
Next point. In his defense of HR3200, Obama also said this, “You will not be waiting in any lines.” In the U.K. there are lines and rationing, in Canada there are lines and rationing. Why would Obamacare be any different? I recently scheduled minor surgery in my city of 5.3 million people. I had to wait 18 days, (the average is 11 here.) I checked the wait times in Toronto, a city of 5.5 million. The target wait time according to the official Canadian Ministry of Health website is 26 weeks – that’s 180 days! If you delve into the CMH website and look at eye surgery in Toronto you’ll find you could be waiting up to 200 days or if you’re lucky you might make the average of 92 days. So why should I believe you Mr. President?
Last point. I have repeatedly argued that if the government cannot run Medicare effectively and it is in danger of running out of money then the government is certainly not ready or capable of running a national health care system. But if you don’t believe me and you think Obama is telling the truth then listen carefully to his words. Last night Obama admitted health care could not be run well by the government. He told us that it would cost far more than originally anticipated and that it would be forced to continually increase the cost of its services. He assured us that the people running health care would be inaccessible, aloof, difficult, lazy, and impossible to fire.
What? You did hear him say that? Well you were not listening. President Barack Obama said all of this when he compared a government-run health care program to a government-run postal service. If you have ever experienced waiting in line at the post office then you can only imagine the lines that are in your future.
