Political Views Are Reflected in Brain Structure

New scientific information show liberals are able to take conflicting information and “cope” with it better than conservatives. According to this study, liberals are likely to see threatening and conflicting sets of data as opportunities to explore.

For this reader, the study sheds some light on how liberals tend to make decisions which can lead to trouble. A current case illustrating this is represented by the nation’s astronomical debt level and the inability of liberals to recognize these fiscal conditions as a threat to our nation’s well-being. For them these conditions are viewed as an opportunity to explore further, a tack that does not lead to the correct actions required by these conditions. This is further represented by their willingness to continue to spend money which exacerbates the situation further.

On the other side, conservatives recognize the situation for what it is. It is viewed as threatening or upsetting to a desired and sound state, which is fiscal responsibility sans exploratory policies (liberal adventurism) that are dangerous to the country’s well being.

The irony here which is often repeated where liberals are involved, is that while liberals see the demise of their social programs as destructive to the country, the pursuit of such policies will actually deliver to everyone what they hope to avoid.

On the contrary, following sound fiscal policies, i.e. less spending, lowered tax rates, lowered federal debt ceilings and the reduction of entitlement programs (unsustainable access to the treasury), will actually give them what we all want, which is a healthy country whose populace are not enslaved by its government. With such an environment, everyone is in a better position to realize their own potential to succeed.

Individuals who call themselves liberal tend to have larger anterior cingulate cortexes, while those who call themselves conservative have larger amygdalas. Based on what is known about the functions of those two brain regions, the structural differences are consistent with reports showing a greater ability of liberals to cope with conflicting information and a greater ability of conservatives to recognize a threat, the researchers say.

Based upon the findings, it suggests liberals need to employ conservative thinking to save them from themselves. But it also sheds some light on why liberals are fond of viewing conservatives as unwilling to “progress” as they would want and why they generally view the Republican Party as the party of “No!”.

The other message here is that liberals cannot be reasoned with because they are inherently incapable of seeing the other side which is often pointing them to the error of their thinking.

  1. Great post. I think though they have an inability to see a threat or they embrace the threat, thinking they can use it to their own advantage. The later seems to be the gist of your post.

I recently made a little observational conclusion myself I wish someone would study. Who stops to leer at accident-scenes or traffic offenders? Liberals.

I see more Obama bumper stickers, literally, jamming their brakes and coming to a full stop with heads craned to see what they might regardless to the road hazard they may pose.

Likewise, I see more conservative bumper stickers slow but never make the effort to look.

I developed a little unproven theory about this. Liberals have this need to see the tragedy, knowing they cannot help but seeing makes them feel as though they have somehow helped. The fact that their actions may have put themselves and others at risk never crosses their minds.

Conversely, conservatives know there is nothing they can do and that the situation is well in hand by the officer on-site, they concentrate on making their own passage safe and avoiding adding to an already dangerous situation.

When no authority has yet arrived I see the same libtards slowing, looking and continuing down the road, while I, the conservative, am safely parked on the shoulder, offering assistance while calling 911. I cannot tell you how many times I have been first on the scene and have watched dozens slink by gawking.

I am convinced there is some tie-in to your post here.

Ah yes, the so-called “rubber-necker”. I see the issue the same way; why bother slowing down to look? There’s nothing I can do. By slowing down to look I become an obstacle and risk being struck by another rubber-necker. Slowing down to gawk for the chance to see some gore violates the single most important rule of being a driver which is “Drive the car.”

Yea, there might be a correlation worth looking into.

Another area worth looking into is the apparent plethora of liberals in the performing arts and in particular, Hollywood.

Not stopping there, another study should be launched to look into their penchant to ignore their own principles. They may have had a case to complain about Bush’s little deficit running, but they are obnoxiously silent when it comes to Obama’s deficit, the size of which is greater than all of the previous presidents combined.

Probably the most important aspect of their lack of principle is the political nature of their hypocrisy. They don’t want to do the right thing for the country. They certainly don’t want to call out Obama for his deficit running. It’s clear that all they want is what they feel they are entitled to – unfettered access to the treasury.

It will come at their own peril.

    • True. And where are the voices screaming collusion with the oil companies to yield outrageous oil prices? Where are the “Obama lied, people died” in Libya chants? They clearly use whatever means necessary to grab power. And to what ends? It is all to the ultimate destruction of their own government and society. They do not seem to grasp that if business stop growing or cease to be created then there will be fewer and fewer jobs. Fewer jobs less people paying taxes and more people receiving tax money from the government.

Running with your comments, it appears to me that the demise of the economy and the resulting demise of the country through unchecked debt is in fact the goal. What else could justify this insanity? This very question brings us back full circle to the different thought processes which are related to brain structure. We are witnessing the results of liberal thinking while conservatives recognize the policies they are exploring as dangerous and by extension, outright insane.

By any measure, it has been shown their economic policies simply don’t work, yet here we are.

The bottom line is this; whenever our elected officials start playing politics with issues carrying grave consequences for the sake of pandering to their political base, the country loses every time. This then leads to the next conclusion.

    Term limits.
