15.2 TRILLION and there ain’t no stopping us now

January 9, 2012 was a historic day in America.  It came and went without much notice in the press or by the millions of Americans affected.  Without Congressional approval, without a vote, without a whimper, the debt limit was automatically raised and the national debt became a record 15.2 trillion dollars.

The new debt number exceeds the total Gross Domestic Product of the entire nation,* which was $15.176 trillion in 2011.  As Americans we should be outraged.  We should recall and impeach all our elected officials who silently approved.  But will we?

No.  Most Americans don’t even realize the danger.  Most won’t care until collapse is imminent.  Then just like in Greece, riots will erupt and people will be confused wondering why they never saw this coming.  I’ve been predicting this since 2004 and writing about it here since 2008.  People smarter than me have as well, but no one listens.

Would you like some fries with that?

Some with shallow understandings of macro economics argue, “it’s a harmless debt, we owe it to ourselves.”  That’s like walking across the Sahara without water and saying, “But it’s a dry heat.”  Nor is it unlike a 900 pound man claiming the extra 1300 calories in the Monster Thickburger won’t make a difference in his 20,000 calorie per day diet.  In both examples the result is the same. Obama Plugs Oil Leak

It may have been this very finger that finally plugged the BP oil leak.  However, right now that fact is unclear because, as of this writing, the President has yet to declare credit for ending the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.  Why is the President being so humble?

I think I speak for many Americans when I say, we all held our breath as BP choked off the leak in a manner that can only be described as torturously slow.  To be sure it had to be so, nevertheless, after months of watching oil boil into the sea, the longest month was the week it took them to close the new valve. Well, Mr. President, you can stop looking

May 27 2010 WASHINGTON - MAY 27: U.S. President Barack Obama pauses during a news conference at the East Room of the White House May 27, 2010 in Washington, DC. Obama announced an extension on the moratorium for deepwater oil drilling for six months. (Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images) Content © 2010 Getty Images All rights reserved.I called it.  On May 6th I predicted the Obama administration would use the Gulf disaster to shut down domestic off-shore drilling.  As sure as the sun rose this morning Obama shut down all off-shore drilling.  Making America even more dependent on foreign oil, specifically, Middle Eastern oil.  (Funny how nearly everything this administration does somehow works in the favor of our enemies, while doing harm either to us or our traditional allies.)

The President is looking to kick some ass

Yesterday I listened as the news replayed a sound bite from the President.  Seated comfortably before NBC’s Matt Lauer, President Obama tried to screw up his best indignant tone as he remarked, “I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar. We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers so I know whose ass to kick.” Now I’m not going to harp on how presidential or not his language was.  It’s not germane to my point.  Rather I’d like to make my own observation. Continue reading
